Designed by the Maguire unit, this course will act as a refresher to help you improve your communication style, become more aware of your communication habits, and learn how to communicate more effective.
In this 1 day workshop you will refresh your understanding and knowledge of advanced communication skills and learn how to apply them in practice.
Course Details
This advanced level, interactive training, focusses on adapting and developing your communication practice, to have a lasting impact, in a professional setting. Its interactive delivery, will allow you to:
- Review evidence-based skills and principles for effective communication.
- Discuss challenges such as breaking bad news, advance care planning, handling anger or distress, and challenging colleagues.
- Practice key skills in specific contexts, receive constructive feedback, and test alternative strategies.
- Identify communication strategies transferable to any interpersonal or professional context.
Suitable for
This course is intended for senior health and social care professionals, including consultants, doctors, nurses, allied health professionals (AHPs), and healthcare scientists. Participants must have completed the Advanced Communication Skills Training (ACST) within the last 3 years.

Venue Information
The Christie Education Centre is located on the 2nd floor in Dept 17 of the main hospital and can be accessed by stairs or lift. Toilets are also on this floor including an accessible toilet. A prayer room is available and close by. We want everyone attending our event in person to have the best possible experience. We provide regular breaks, access to quiet spaces etc. but If there is anything else we can do to make the day/your experience more comfortable, please let us know.
Booking Terms & Conditions
- Your place will only be confirmed when The Christie receives payment or the production of an official purchase order. Please DO NOT book a place unless you have approval from your manager AND confirmation that your trust are willing to pay your delegate fees.
- Once your place is confirmed, you will be notified by email. Please ensure that we hold a valid email address and mobile contact number for you.
- Payment must be made before the course commences. We reserve the right to cancel a booking in the case of non-receipt of payment.
- Joining instructions will be sent via email two to four weeks before the course commences.
- In the event of a cancellation: A charge of 25% of the course fee will be made for cancellations up to 6 weeks prior to the workshop date; a charge of 50% of the course fee will be made between 4 and 6 weeks prior to the workshop; no refund will be given for cancellation within 4 weeks of the workshop; suitable replacement delegates will be accepted up to 3 working days prior to the course.
