When is the last time you got out and just played games in the yard? Last time you got to play with the giant parachute thingy? Last time you saw a ghost? This workshop promises at least two out of three of those things will happen!As we grow older, we tend to lose sight of how important play is in our daily lives. Play gets replaced with work. Connection gets replaced with commitment. In this free workshop, we hope to rekindle the spark you had for play as a child. Help us to meet new people and form new connections as we get in touch with our inner child.
Ages 18+ are welcome for this workshop, and we hope to make more of these happen for more age groups in the future. For now, we would like to focus on relearning how to bring play into our lives as adults!
We might play Freeze Dance, Red Light Green Light, Giant Parachute, Human Knot, The Sound Game, Spider in the Web, or any number of a plethora of yard and group games that we played when we were younger. You never know what we might be playing, so come down with an open mind and ready to let your hair down.
We have run this workshop at a festival we love to go to, Anahatas Purpose, and people loved it, so we wanted to bring it home with us and share with the fine people of West Michigan!
Come and take your masks off, practice joy, and find community and purpose through play!
This class is open to all adults, 18+, all body types, race, sex, gender identity, belief system. It is a 100% consent based workshop, and you don't have to participate in any activity outside of your ability or comfort zone.
It is also an open container workshop, meaning you can come and go as you please, no need for you to be "on time" or stay the whole time. You want to come and play for 15 minutes then head out? This is a space for you to do so. We hope you'll push yourself out of your comfort zone and come join us in being really freaking weird together.
We will be finding space in the fields of the South end of Riverside Park. Parking available in parking lots, and on the streets near the park.
Be ready to remove your own trash and leave the park better than we found it.
Games time from 7-830ish, times are flexible. We will go longer if people want to!
Be mindful that we will be playing field games, so be ready to get a little dirty.
