About this Event
Adrian West Band describes its sound as “Paul Simon meets Talking Heads.” They play original acoustic rock songs & instrumentals plus a few jazz standards. Normally a five-piece band, for this show they’re adding talented pianist and composer Michael Echaniz who will join them on the Back Room’s Steinway grand piano. This show will be a variation on the concert they gave in August at the California Jazz Conservatory in Berkeley which was a big hit with the audience. In addition to Adrian’s originals they’ll play jazz standards by the likes of Herbie Hancock, Norah Jones, Kenny Garrett, Roy Hargrove and others.
Adrian's approach to songwriting starts with instrumental music. He begins by composing and arranging the instrumental music and the melodies that will be sung, with little regard to lyrics at first. Only if the underlying music and arrangement are truly compelling will he start toying with lyrics. Otherwise he jumps ship and waits for a better musical idea to come along. (Fun fact: Paul Simon and David Byrne worked pretty much the same way). Whether he’s telling a story or commenting on some challenge facing humanity, his lyrics are fueled by equal parts hope, dry-eyed realism and lighthearted whimsy.
The Back Room is the perfect setting for this exciting show and they look forward to playing for you as you relax in one of the Back Room’s soft, inviting couches.

Tickets are $18 in advance and $20 at the door. Children under 12 are free. Advance tickets are available here, or if the show is not sold out, you may purchase your tickets at the door before the show.
Doors open one half hour before show time. We accept cash or Venmo only at the door.
