Adrian West Band describes its sound as “Paul Simon meets Talking Heads.” They play original acoustic rock songs & instrumentals plus a few jazz standards. Normally a five-piece band, for this show they’re adding talented pianist and composer Michael Echaniz on the Back Room’s Steinway grand piano. This show will be a variation on the concert they gave in August at the California Jazz Conservatory in Berkeley which was a big hit with the audience. In addition to Adrian’s originals they’ll play jazz standards by the likes of Herbie Hancock, Norah Jones, Kenny Garrett, Roy Hargrove and others.Adrian's approach to songwriting starts with instrumental music. He begins by composing and arranging the music and melodies that will be sung, with little regard to lyrics. Only if the underlying music and arrangement are truly compelling will he start toying with lyrics, otherwise he jumps ship and waits for a better idea to come along. Whether telling a story or grappling with some challenge facing humanity, his lyrics are fueled by equal parts hope, clear-eyed realism and lighthearted whimsy.
The Back Room is the perfect setting for this exciting show and they look forward to playing for you as you relax in one of the Back Room’s soft, inviting couches.

Doors open one half hour before show time. We accept cash or Venmo only at the door.
