Make your own Laughing Owl Sculpture from cardboard! Join us for a joyful, beginner-friendly sculpture workshop led by featured exhibition artist Kym Cunningham, as she brings a new immersive exhibition 'The Magnificent Land of Wondrous Things' to Gympie Regional Gallery this June–July.
Based on the Fraser Coast, Kym Cunningham is an award-winning sculptor known for transforming recycled and unconventional materials into quirky, wonder-filled artworks. Kym is also the 2025 Avant-Garde Category winner at the Australian Wearable Art Festival. (Yes… wearable art made from cardboard magic!)
In this hands-on session, you’ll be guided step-by-step to create your own adorable laughing owl sculpture using recycled materials, then finish it off with simple painting techniques to bring it to life.
You’ll learn:
- how different types of cardboard behave (and what they’re best for)
- basic 3D structure + stability
- shaping techniques for texture and character
- joins + layering for strength
- how to confidently use a glue gun
- easy painting tricks for a bold, finished look
