About this Event
Come join us in celebrating the first 2 issues of Adda! Although Adda takes the form of a print publication, what you read is actually the culmination of a long, collaborative process. Each issue documents an intimate gathering between myself and two cultural workers, where we share a meal or an activity together and have a conversation.
On Saturday 2nd May, we are opening up that gathering space to all of you – friends, family, lovers, readers and potential readers of Adda. Please come and browse through a copy and let me know your thoughts, or share them with someone else in the space! We’ll also have food, drinks, and of course, karaoke. Looking forward to seeing you there.
With love, Ankita

ABOUT ADDA
With Adda, I speak to two cultural workers who already share a connection through friendship, romance, collaboration, or anything in between. We organise a little আড্ডা (adda) session for ourselves where we can slowly and meanderingly get to know each other. We flow in and out of topics, discussing the guests’ relationship with each other, the interdependent networks they are each a part of, and the ways that care and relationship-building are centred in their work. Consciously or subconsciously, each person I speak to also carries histories or lived experiences of migration, which come up naturally as a running thread in our conversations.

Issue 1
In the first issue, I speak with two British-Bangladeshi artists, Puer Deorum and Jannat Hussain. I met Puer in 2022 when we used to work together, and Jannat in 2024, through Puer. The two of them had been friends for a while, and at the time, they had also been working towards a duo exhibition titled heavy traces, light trails that ran at Filet Space in London, in November 2024.
Issue 2
This second gathering features curator Gisselle Girón Casas and artist Ingrid Pumayalla, two Peruvian practitioners currently based in the UK. Gisselle and Ingrid have been friends and collaborators for many years, and I met both of them through a close friend here in London.
Issues 1 and 2 of Adda are supported by PageMasters Co. This event is supported by Cubitt Artists.

ABOUT ANKITA
I’m a curator currently based in London, with roots in Kolkata and Singapore. My practice weaves together research, writing, making, and programming, and centers a slow and collaborative approach to working. Most recently I’ve been working on Adda – a publication series that explores practices of resistance, care, and interdependence through intimate gatherings with other artists and cultural organisers. I’m also currently working at the School of Traditional Arts, where I am deepening my understanding of craft traditions that are carried across generations through practice and embodiment – especially as they relate to the intersecting histories of Bengal, Southeast Asia, and the UK.

ACCESS INFORMATION
The event will be held at Cubitt Gallery (8 Angel Mews, London N1 9HH). The space is wheelchair accessible (though with some cobbled stone in the entrance), and will have lots of chairs & seating available. Full access information can be found through the Eventbrite link in my bio, and on Cubitt’s website: cubittartists.org.uk/cubittaccessibility.
The event will be a social gathering involving karaoke. As such, the space may become auditorily stimulating with overlapping conversation and loud singing and music.
