About this Event
Whether you’re listening, composing or performing music, its value in terms of entertainment, therapy, social interaction and an outlet for creative expression is unparalleled. Within Enable Ireland’s National AT Training Service we have also found music-based activities to be an excellent motivator. Something that encourages both the young and not-so-young to engage with technology and develop access skills that easily transfer to other areas.
On Wednesday November 20th at 11am – 1 pm in Enable Ireland Sandymount we are delighted to host an Inclusive Music Software/Technology demonstration.
e-Music
Tim Anderson & Elin Skogdal from the SKUG Centre in Tromsø Norway will be demonstrating their e-Music software and discussing how they use it, along with other technology, to support musicians with access difficulties. Read more here about e-Music and the amazing work being carried out by the SKUG Centre.
Apollo Ensemble & the See, Hear, Play Project
Mark Hildred (Apollo Ensemble), Fidelma Morris (See Hear Play) and Karl O’Keeffe (Enable Ireland AT) will talk about the See Hear Play project and demonstrate the new kit that will be available to borrow from January.
Apollo Ensemble is a Windows based software platform for supporting creative audio/visual group activities. The See, Hear, Play was a pilot project ran with schools in 2020/21. This blog post outlines the original project. The project makes two kits with a range of alternative input devices, lights and speakers along with a laptop running Apollo Ensemble available to schools for long term loan. What is unique about Apollo Ensemble is the ease with which it allows familiar alternative input devices to be used as musical control surfaces. Facilitating music performance using switches, joysticks, eyegaze and movement lowers the barrier even further. Two new kits have been developed thanks to the excellent feedback from the schools who participated in the pilot project and the generous support of TKMaxx. The kits will be accompanied by a range of premade themes and lesson plans to support teachers and facilitators in making the most of the equipment during their loan.
This is a in person event in Enable Ireland Sandymount. We will be making it available via Teams at the link below for those unable to attend however the quality of online experience may vary due to the nature of the event.
