Develop your own visual language - Tuesday Evening Course over 6 weeks
About this Event

ABSTRACT PAINTING – HOW TO DEVELOP YOUR OWN VISUAL LANGUAGE

This course is for anyone with some art-making experience. It’s not suitable for absolute beginners.

Explore ways of abstracting and modifying figurative subject matter. Working with the figure and the tangible world around us, learn how to reduce and simplify the visual form. Develop your portfolio of abstract still life, interiors, the figure, portrait and landscapes.

We will work through a range of formal exercises with a focus on tonal drawing and collaging. Through this you’ll explore in depth the rules and importance of composition.

A portion of the course will cover how modernist theories paved the way for contemporary art. Looking at artists’ practices from ancient masters to contemporary artists, you’ll develop new ways of thinking and seeing.

Through the process of converting the complexity of the world around us into simple forms, you’ll develop your own visual language.

By the end of this course you’ll be able to continue your artistic practice independently with more confidence.

Tuesdays
17 February – 24 March / 6.30pm – 9.00pm
6 weeks / No half term break
