Join us for an absolute beginner workshop in lost wax casting with Ceilidh Dalton.Used for more than 6,000 years, lost wax casting is one of the oldest methods of making metal objects. In this hands-on class, you’ll learn some of the history and theory behind the process, while exploring the creative possibilities of wax and natural object casting.
Date: Saturday, 27 June
Time: 10.00am – 2.00pm
Location: Norgrove Park, Kingston
During the workshop, students will be introduced to the possibilities and limitations of wax working, with hands-on experience using tools and experimenting with different sculpting techniques using non-toxic materials including beeswax and coconut oil.
You’ll receive instruction in creating rings, pendants, brooches, or other small wearable or sculptural forms you can imagine, along with a resource list of suppliers for tools, materials and casting.
At the end of the class, you can choose to keep your sample pieces as wax models or have them cast at Palloys at your own expense, with support from the tutor.
By the end of the workshop, you will:
• understand the history and theory of lost wax casting
• know the limitations of wax working
• gain practical experience in safe tool use
• learn a variety of sculpting techniques
This workshop is suitable for beginners aged 16+ with little to no experience, as well as those wishing to build on the foundations of their jewellery-making practice. All materials are included in the class cost.
