Two Wheels to the ABR 2026: The Epic Southbound Pilgrimage📍 The Plan
We are hitting the tarmac early to beat the traffic and twist our way down to Ragley Hall for the ABR Festival for a good time. This route is a legendary mix of borders twisties, big-mile motorway cruising, and a scenic Warwickshire finish.
⚠️ CRITICAL REMINDER: Please arrive at Two Wheels with a full tank of fuel at 04:30 as we aim to roll out at 05:00 AM.
The Route & Scenic Highlights
Phase 1: The Borders Dawn Blast (A68 – A698 – A7)
We start with a wake-up call on the A68. As the sun comes up, we’ll tackle the famous roller-coaster "yomps" and blind crests heading south.
• Scenic Spotlight - The Teviot Valley & A7 Sweepers: Just before Jedburgh, we peel right onto the A698 and follow the beautiful Teviot Valley across to Hawick. From there, we join the legendary A7. This is motorcycle heaven—miles of sweeping, perfectly cambered bends tracing the river valleys down through Langholm (the "Muckle Toon") and across the border toward Carlisle.
Phase 2: The Cumbrian Crossing & Main Stop (M6)
At Carlisle, we drop onto the M6 to start eating up the miles.
• Scenic Spotlight - Shap Summit: Towering at over 1,000 feet, this is the highest point of the English motorway network. Look left for the dramatic, velvety peaks of the Howgill Fells and right for the edges of the Lake District.
• FUEL & FOOD STOP: Tebay Services Southbound (~125 miles in): Forget your standard grim motorway fast food. We are stopping at the legendary, family-owned Tebay. Think a proper home-cooked Cumbrian farm shop breakfast, excellent coffee, and a chance to stretch the legs by the duck pond. We will all brim our tanks at the Esso here.
Phase 3: The Midlands Slog & Final Splash (M6 – M5)
After Tebay, it's head down for the motorway haul past Manchester and Stoke.
• FUEL STOP 2: Frankley Services Southbound (M5): Pushing right past the Birmingham interchange, we’ll pull into Frankley Services just as we join the M5. This is a quick "splash and dash" to top off the tanks so we don't have to queue for fuel when we arrive at the festival gates!
Phase 4: The Warwickshire Wiggle (A38 – A448 – A435 – A422)
Off the motorway and straight back into the fun stuff. We’ll shake off the motorway square-tyre blues on a brilliant sequence of leafy Warwickshire A-roads, eventually dropping onto the A422 which leads us straight to the gates of the Ragley Hall Estate.
Checklist:
Full tank of fuel at the start.
