Come one and all who hear this call! Join us for Get-Hype Open-Mic: Featuring The-Two-Man Show at Abolition Comix Bookstore on Friday May 8th, 2026 from 7-9pm and experience an evening of powerful poetry, djembe drum, and a safe space for building community.

Hosted by and fearuring J.R. Rice, award-winning Oakland author, poet, educator, and spoken-word artist known for bringing heart, storytelling, and soul to every stage.


Featuring the Grand Slam Poet, author, and actor, Protected Poet (@Protected_poet) hose work delivers honesty, intensity, and sharp lyrical insight.


With special guest Adam Hudson (@adam.hudson5) a Bay Area drummer, percussionist, writer, educator, and Pan-Africanist whose music blends rock, blues, and African rhythmic traditions. A former drummer and percussionist for the San Francisco Bay Area alternative rock band Sunata, Hudson now also performs as a solo djembe player, drawing from West African drumming and Black musical roots.

In collaboration with the playwright, actor, and chef, Anthony Michael Jefferson (@anthonymichaeljefferson), and hosted by Abolition Comix, a vibrant independent Oakland bookstore and community-centered space dedicated to literature, liberation, art, and conversation.
