A whole school approach to Attendance

Faye Whittle and Caroline Scotcher, Birmingham Education Partnership

Explore a human-centred relational approach to attendance improvement and cultural development, rooted in the values of belonging and connectedness. Discover how the Five Foundations of Effective Attendance Practice Framework aligns with government directives and Ofsted standards, informed by up-to-date research and theory.

Faye leads the SEND and Inclusion team at Birmingham Education Partnership and has worked in education for over 25 years across primary, secondary, specialist settings. Caroline’s skills and expertise lie in guiding educational leaders in implementing effective strategies to enhance mental health, resilience, and overall wellbeing as well as working with schools on cultivating psychologically safe environments that maximise student outcomes, empower staff, and engage families.

A Zoom link will be shared with attendees ahead of the session.

AEPA Roundtables

The AEPA (Area-based Education Partnerships Association) brings together over 30 local partnerships across England – school-led, place-based partnerships that have a focus on school improvement, particularly on issues relating to both excellence and equity. Our belief is that by working together in this way, local groups of schools can create change that cannot easily be tackled by autonomous schools working alone or in small groups. In many of these partnerships, schools have chosen to take collective responsibility for the quality of education - and so, for all children - in a local area. Each partnership acts as a local engine of improvement, bridging the divide between different types of schools so none is isolated, and providing a framework to enable all schools to work together. The AEPA is co-chaired by Baroness Estelle Morris and Dame Christine Gilbert.
