About this Event
Classic New Orleans Jazz Sextet
When a nation is at war, music can help its soldiers and citizens endure. Since the earliest days of jazz, songs have been written for soldiers to dream of home and for those at home to think of their loved ones far away. The Southside Aces, who learned from the Hall Brothers Jazz Band how best to honor Veterans through this music, will perform popular wartime songs from America, as well as the designated songs from each branch of the Armed Services. Join them for a special concert in celebration of Veterans and their service to this country.
Erik Jacobson: Sousaphone
Tony Balluff: Clarinet
Dan Eikmeier: Trumpet/Cornet
Eric Johnson: Trombone
Dave Michael: Drums
Robert Bell: Guitar
For nearly two decades the Southside Aces have been playing the repertoire of the Jazz Age greats and beyond. From the early New Orleans of Jelly Roll Morton to the Chicago joys of Louis Armstrong. The evocative compositions of the young Duke Ellington to the barrel house sounds of Preservation Hall. And with the 2022 release of their 8th album, Minneapolis Bump, they’ve added fifteen originals to the jazz canon.
“The performers are virtuosi and flawlessly replicate the sound of classic New Orleans…The concert was wonderful and demonstrates the continued vitality of this sort of music.” John Beckmann—Prairie Uprising
