About this Event
Two of the Cathedral's choirs collaborate in an evening of choral highlights and lesser-known gems, interspersing works with royal connections and pieces from the the landmark mid-20th century collection, A Garland for the Queen. Works by William Walton and former Master of the Queen's Music Judith Weir are accompanied by Handel's ever-green Zadok the Priest and partsongs by Arthur Bliss, Michael Tippett and Robert Pearsall. Roxanna Panufnik's Coronation Sanctus, Rachel Laurin's masterful Te Deum and Ralph Vaughan Williams' masterpiece Serenade to Music round-off an evening not to be missed!
Southwark Cathedral Choir
Southwark Cathedral Choir sings six choral services each week, underpinning the liturgical life and soul of the building and community. Made up of girls, boys, young adults and professional Lay Clerks, it provides an outstanding musical education to young people from across London and its surrounding counties who show musical potential, and occupies a unique and important place in London's musical landscape.
The Merbecke Choir
The Merbecke Choir is the Cathedral's adult chamber choir, offering outstanding performances both in services and concerts throughout the year. Founded in 2003, it is now an established part of the Cathedral's musical life and pursues a busy schedule - past performances include those for the Archbishop of Canterbury, Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu, Her Majesty the Queen's Christmas Broadcast and BBC Songs of Praise.
