Join us on Saturday 21st February 2026 from 2pm to 4.30pm at St Mary's Community Centre, Bourne Street, for an engaging afternoon exploring the fascinating history of gardening through ten intriguing mystery objects. This interactive study day offers a unique blend of hands-on investigation and expert insight.
The afternoon begins with participants working in small groups to examine and discuss mysterious bagged objects, piecing together clues about their purpose and historical significance. After a break for refreshments at 3pm, David will reveal the secrets behind each object through an illuminating talk, connecting them to broader themes in gardening history and demonstrating their relevance to our understanding of green spaces today. The event concludes at 4.30pm with opportunities to share reflections and experiences.
Tickets are £25 per person, with spaces limited to ensure an intimate, participatory experience.
About Dr David Marsh
Dr David Marsh is Course Director for the MA in Garden History and Honorary Senior Research Fellow at the University of Buckingham. After a distinguished career in teaching culminating as a head teacher in inner London, he pursued his passion for garden history, completing a diploma, MA in Historical Research at Birkbeck College, and PhD on The Gardens and Gardeners of Later Stuart London. A former trustee of the Gardens Trust, David has written their popular weekly blog since 2013, combining scholarly insight with accessible storytelling to inform and entertain readers every Saturday morning.
