About this Event
Mochi is a Japanese ceremonial tea master and big brush calligraphy artist. In this workshop, she’ll introduce the tools of large-scale calligraphy and share a brief history of Japanese kanji and hiragana.
Together, we’ll explore the symbolic and physical nature of the circle, along with the mechanics of drawing it in a single, continuous stroke. Mochi will also speak to Japanese Zen and meditation, and how these practices inform her art.
The session includes a 10-minute guided meditation to help you settle into stillness. From there, you’ll create your own one-stroke circular form, interpreted however you like: the moon, an eye, a coin, a clock, or something entirely your own.
Mochi will demonstrate the technique and offer individual support throughout. You’re also welcome to explore a one-brush-stroke painting inspired by your meditation.
