Join the Foundation to Preserve Ukraine’s Sacral Arts, Ukrainian National Women's League of America - Washington Branch and Ukraine House for a documentary screening of "A Mission of Service"Vasyl Nahirny (1848-1921) was one of Halychyna’s most remarkable architects and public figures. Over 200 churches were built according to his designs — each one blending centuries-old Ukrainian tradition with the emerging styles of the modern age. Nahirny is widely regarded as the founder of the new Halychyna school of sacred architecture.
Nahirny was also a gifted organizer. At the turn of the 20th century, he established numerous associations and organizations that united hundreds of Ukrainians in Halychyna, provided employment, advanced education and culture, and strengthened national industry and trade.
Thanks to his efforts, organizations such as “Slaviya,” “Zorya,” “Narodna Torhivlya,” “Dnister,” “Sokil,” and the “Society for the Development of Ruthenian Art” came to life — reviving the energy of Ukrainian communities and reinforcing their sense of national identity.
Stanislav Lytvynov is the director of the documentary film series “Art About Art,” dedicated to Ukrainian artists. The series features renowned Ukrainian painters and sculptors, including Petro Bevza, Petro Antyp, Mykola Bilyk, Vasyl Yarych, Volodymyr and Oksana Rybotytski, Mykola Shymchuk, Oleksandr Melnyk, Oleh Minko, and others. He is the initiator of the #CreatingCultureTogether movement and since 2021, an expert of the Ukrainian Cultural Foundation. Lytvynov is currently serving in the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
