About this Event
This is a two-session class on Saturday May 16 and 30th. Your ticket covers both days!
This is a course for adults and is best for participants who are at least 14 years old.
Ever wonder how scientists can tell which genes are turned on inside a cell? In this exciting hands-on workshop, you’ll explore the world of RNA sequencing (RNA-seq), one of the most powerful tools in modern biology used in medicine, biotechnology, cancer research, and genetics.
Participants will begin by extracting RNA from biological samples and learning how this fragile molecule carries the real-time instructions cells use to function. Next, you’ll prepare the RNA for sequencing and check the quality of your samples, gaining experience with key laboratory techniques used in research labs today.
Finally, you’ll step into the role of a bioinformatician by analyzing real sequencing data to discover patterns of gene expression, compare samples, and see how scientists turn raw data into biological insight.
No prior experience is required. This class is designed for curious beginners, students, educators, and anyone interested in how genetics is studied in the 21st century.
