About this Event
We'll meet at the east entrance to Montclair Park on Mountain Boulevard, in the shade between the baseball diamond and pickleball courts. From there we'll walk through the woods on the Montclair Railroad Trail from its seekrit starting point into Shepherd Canyon. We'll loop back on quiet Escher Drive through Shepherd Canyon Park to the railroad trail on little-used paths. Along the way we'll pass exposures of three rock units from the time of the dinosaurs: the Shephard Creek Formation, Redwood Canyon Formation and Oakland Conglomerate. We'll also learn about the human history hidden along the way.
This is a free walk, but attendance is limited due to narrow roads. Some off-trail walking. Dogs on leash are OK. I will send out my cell number a day in advance. Please be prompt and alert.
