About this Event
Dive into an exciting journey through the world of opera with an event that blends music, storytelling and fun for the whole family!
Enjoy the world premiere of the Opera Express, a 15-minute opera inspired by the music of composers of African and Caribbean heritage. The piece, in which a pianist transforms the chaos of Kings Cross into a musical masterpiece, was co-created by performers from award-winning homelessness charity Streetwise Opera and a remarkable group of world-class artists: writer Paterson Joseph, composer Pete Letanka, director TD Moyo, designer Debbie Duru and dramaturg Laura Asare.
The event continues with an interactive recital of pieces by Black composers: Ignatius Sancho, George Bridgetower, Joseph Bologne, Samuel Coleridge-Taylor, Florence Price, Margaret Bonds and Shirley Thompson.
The performance is followed by an interactive workshop that promises to ignite the imagination. Experience the magic of songwriting, storytelling, character creation and performance as you co-create your own short opera!
This event is aimed at families with children aged 7 and older. All children must be accompanied by an adult.
A Family Adventure in Opera is part of Re:Discover Festival, a celebration of African and Caribbean heritage in Britain, produced by award-winning Streetwise Opera. Find out more at streetwiseopera.org/rediscover.
