About this Event

WORD FOR WORD Performing Arts Company performs short works of fiction in their entirety, preserving the author’s voice and honoring their intent with exciting visuals and inventive staging.

In “A Fabulous Animal,” Samanta Schweblin thrusts us into the moment of a tragic accident, a critical breaking point in the lives of three friends. The nature of this accident is withheld until the end of the story, gripping the reader in suspense as they piece events together from the fragmented narration. Of this subtle yet powerful story, George Saunders says "It's a stunning story which is, I think, destined to become a classic."

This reading will be accompanied by a secondary one - To Be Announced!**

About Word for Word and Z SPACE

Word for Word Performing Arts Company is a program of Z Space in San Francisco. An ensemble whose mission is to tell great stories with elegant theatricality, Word for Word stages performances of classic and contemporary fiction. Founded in 1993 by Susan Harloe and JoAnne Winter, Word for Word believes in the power of the short story to provide solace, compassion, and insight into our daily lives.

Z SPACE is a non-profit theater company located in the heart of San Francisco’s Mission District. We produce our own works, foster and subsidize the development of other creative artists with our Residency program, and curate rentals from a wide variety of performing arts organizations. Operating out of an old factory, we activate two performance venues, an 83-seat intimate theater (Z Below) and a 236-seat flexible performance space (The Steindler Stage), with a warehouse aesthetic and an adventurous edge.
