-Background
Eid al-Adha marks the end of Hajj. Hajj is a Muslim pilgrimage. Hajj is the fifth and final pillar of Islam which takes during the hijjah the 12th month of the Islamic calendar. The 8th, 9th, and 10th days are the days of Hajj.
There are four other pillars of Islam: a declaration of faith and belief in one God, prayers five times a day, charity, and fasting during Ramadan.
Montagu Evans (ME) is a property consultancy that creates inspiring places to live, work, communicate, and connect. Their work encompasses planning and development, property and management, specialist valuations, and transactions.
The AMSi (Association of Muslim Surveyors Initiative) came about in 2023, to mark Eid the RICS offered to host the first event which was a success drawing people with interest in the industry, Arab News wrote an article: https://www.arabnews.com/node/2297811/world.
The RICS is the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, they are a global professional body for those working in the Built Environment, Construction, Land, Property, and Real Estate.
-The AMSi
AMSi has simple aims:
- To pave the way into professional real estate institutions and organisations.
- To raise awareness of the professions in communities, particularly Muslim, as the role of a surveyor is unknown, other industry professionals are the same.
- To create a platform that is for everyone, Muslim and non-Muslim.
We also aim to build bridges in society by developing an understanding of each other, over the past year, we have welcomed the support of sister organisations and partners who are welcome to come and share what they do at our event.
Brother organisations such as QSAP in Pakistan, KSA, and the Middle East, the Society of QS in Bangladesh, Muslims in Rail, and Cube Network are noteworthy, the Muslim Council of Britain joined one of our events.
Last year we delivered four events, two in the RICS and two in London's mosques, this year on 1 May we again celebrated Eid at the RICS.
This will be our sixth event, we hope this will be a happy and light occasion, albeit like all our events it will be simple as we are an unfunded initiative, therefore if anything is lacking, please be prepared to help.
-ME & the AMS Initiative
During the evening there will be a welcome by ME who will talk about their organisation, there will be an introduction to Eid Al Adha, and then there will be a talk on excellence in regeneration - "the power of partnerships", the event will start and end with a talk by AMSi.
We aim to focus more on related policy work, education, and training we can only do what we have the capacity for.
The evening is an opportunity to learn about what a major UK real estate consultancy does and to network, drinks (non-alcoholic) and snacks will be served, and there will be a prayer space.
The event is an opportunity for real estate businesses, professionals, and aspiring surveyors to, university and college students.
We thank ME for hosting us, this is a good opportunity for existing members these are people who affiliate with the AMSi brand, some act as ambassadors as they did at UKREiiF last month and at our Eid at the RICS event, and new people in the industry to come together.
-Impact
At our last Eid at the RICS event, our special guest was Tariq Usmani, MBE. The audience liked his talk, as former CEO of what was the UK's 38th fastest-growing construction company he is an inspiring person. Tariq has a lot of experiences people can learn from.
After we platformed Adewole Ademolake, MRICS at our first event, the RICS invited him back to talk at a "Welcome to the Profession Event" and he made this YouTube video:
, we hope it inspires you.We are pleased we can platform young unknown talent from diverse communities, people who would not ordinarily be seen, most of our events last year platformed young people.
A few young men who did not want to be seen before, are now confident and well-networked in the industry through our early work, when we started they did not know each other, and along with them, we brought a whole community into focus.
We also draw out stories from a few hidden elders for example.
Our events and work are known to inspire others, which is why we continue to do them and look forward to invites from others.
-For note
This will be a public event people may take photos or make videos, we cannot be responsible if you are in them, we will do this too and may use the material we gather for marketing, ME may as well.
We may share the attendee list with ME confidentially so they know who will attend, we recommend you bring a name badge along. We will add names to the Surveyor Store Ltd website, from which you can unsubscribe at any time.
-Questions
Should you have any questions, kindly contact Sarah Chaudhry MBA FRICS, Director, Surveyor Store Ltd, 07521 085400, WhatsApp any questions if easier, please say who you are and state your question clearly, or email: [email protected].
-Limited seats
We look forward to seeing you at the event, due to limited capacity we recommend if you intend to attend, to book early.
Do consider sponsoring a seat, if you do you can offer them to your contacts or internally and we can give you a code to give them to book free seats, or as you wish we can offer them as free tickets to others.
-Greater good
Seat sales help us to continue the AMSi service, ours is a worthwhile initiative, and to guide someone and to help them learn, develop, and be self-sufficient is a good thing to do.
Initiatives such as ours are much needed, please note we are not a charity or run on grant funding, we are not a CIC. AMSi continues due to our commitment and time investment, we are a service, we do however keep this under review as one ought to.
