About this Event
Suitable for adults and children aged 12+
Join this festive evening walk around the City of London – the London of Charles Dickens.
As we revisit this most famous of tales we’ll pass the location of Scrooge’s Counting House, the hill that Bob Cratchit slid down on Christmas Eve and see many other locations referenced in the novels of Charles Dickens.
On our way we’ll weave the story of Dickens’s life into the places he knew and learn about the origins of Christmas traditions.
Reviews:
"An absolutely fantastic guided walk - the most Christmassy event I’ve attended this year. Natasha showed us around the hidden streets of the City of London, stopping at buildings and landmarks that featured in Dickens’ writings or were important in his life. The tour was fascinating, I learned so much about the history of London, as well as lots of amazing snippets of information about the English language, architecture, historic buildings and the cultural life of the city. The walk was really fun too, Natasha encouraged everyone to take part by asking questions or reading out passages from Dickens’ novels. I can’t recommend her walks highly enough and can’t wait to do another one!"
"A really enjoyable walk. Our group were particularly impressed with the manner in which Natasha interwove several distinct strands (including the events and impact of the novel, Charles Dickens’ life story, the evolution of the English Christmas and the history of London itself) into a coherent narrative which she conveyed elegantly, concisely and with a wry sense of humour. Thanks again for giving us such a perfect Christmas activity!"
