A BODY IN MOTION
A body in motion stays in motion with the same speed and in the same direction unless acted upon by an unbalanced force.
Our first winter exhibition; a duel show between artists Jacobo Alonso and Miguel Angel Crozzoli focuses on how the body moves. In the project Periplos, Alonso delicately cuts designs into the Isothermal blankets used often by migrants passing through Mexico. The blankets, emblazoned with patterns pulled from maps, data, and the displacement routes taken by these travelers become both relics and records.
Among Alonso’s blankets, sits Crozzoli’s work “Love is,” a set of beating heart-objects designed to fit in the hand. This work tracks movement within the body; using data pulled from heartbeat monitors to create sculptures that respond to one’s hands.
As a whole, the show is a means of grappling with motion, emotion, and how we move on a scale as small as the changes in our heartbeats, and as large as the paths we take between countries.
