Guest Speaker~
Lareatha H. Clay is the founding member of the Shankleville (Texas) Historical Society, Inc. This Beaumont native currently lives in Dallas, where she continues her involvement with the Shankleville Community, including the founding of the Texas Purple Hull Pea Festival in 2014. Lareatha served as a Commissioner on the Texas Historical Commission from 2001 to 2007, where she established a paid internship program that offers college students from under-represented ethnic and cultural, backgrounds the opportunity to work at the THC during the summer. She continues to work with the Commission as a current member and former Chair and Secretary of the Board of Trustees of the Friends of the Texas Historical Commission, Inc.
