The 8th Firenze Film Festival will take place on the 22nd of February at the Institut français Firenze, screening short and feature films from around the world.
This year's programme opens with Marco Gianfreda's feature film ‘Three Infallible Rules’. According to Gianfreda, the film is a tale about that phase during adolescence when we discover a need for love that is different from the love for our mother. This is the age when we realize that parental love is no longer enough to fill our life on its own. But how do we go about falling in love when nobody has ever explained it to us before?.
The short films programme brings together indie shorts from Argentina and the United States, Belgium, Germany and Norway, highlighting upcoming filmmakers. Fiction and documentary, animated and student films touch upon various themes using the power of short films.
Amanda Bonaiuto's abstract animation ‘Confetti’ opens this programme, creating both tender and dreadful feelings with its surreal atmosphere. Sigi Van Roy’s graduation film ‘Kids Will Be Alright’ talks about the struggles of adulthood in modern society, while in ‘No Hoses on Mars’ we see the world from the horse's perspective. According to the director, Bea de Visser, the film is based on research and observations that emerge from, among other things, ethological, biological research into the horse – such as behavior, perception, brain function, hearing – and training with horses.
The Firenze Film Festival is an annual celebration of independent cinema, welcoming a mixed audience. Films are in English or have English subtitles. Entrance is free.
