WEIO is a four-day celebration of Alaska Native strength, culture, and community that turns the Carlson Center into the heartbeat of Fairbanks each July. It’s where world-class traditional athletes, artists, culture-bearers, youth, and Elders come together to share Indigenous games, dance, and laughter in one unforgettable experience.
Why attend WEIO 2026
Over four days, visitors can watch elite athletes compete in traditional games like the high kicks, blanket toss, and strength events that come directly from Indigenous survival skills and cultural teachings. Every session offers something different to see and learn, making WEIO a place you can return to day after day and still discover something new.
Throughout the evening events, the arena has Alaska Native dance groups, cultural demonstrations, and pageantry that highlight the resilience, humor, and beauty of our communities. Between events, you can meet artists, shop for one-of-a-kind handmade pieces in the arts and crafts fair, and connect directly with culture-bearers and families from across Alaska and the Arctic.
WEIO is a family-friendly environment. Visitors can experience the pride of Indigenous representation, and how WEIO helps sustain cultural continuity, youth leadership, and positive community gathering spaces.
Whether you come for the athletic competition, the cultural performances, or to support friends and relatives, WEIO offers a welcoming, alcohol-free, intergenerational space where everyone is invited to witness living Alaska Native traditions. Attending WEIO is not just an event on the calendar—it is an investment in culture, community wellness, and the next generation of Indigenous leaders.
