6 Week Ceramics Course - Hand Building, Throwing & much more!

Come along to our relaxed, fun & friendly pottery workshops & experiment with hand building, throwing, decorating & glazing your work.

Friday mornings have just got better!

Come & get creative in the delightful Open Art cafe in the picturesque seaside village of Rottingdean led by Nadya, a visual Artist & facilitator of Art, Craft & Textiles workshops for over 25 years!
We'll be exploring the many properties & possibilities of using clay at your own pace, the emphasis on process & pleasure rather than results.
You'll experiment with different hand building techniques including pinch pots, coil and slab building and there's also the opportunity to have a go on the wheel, quite an experience I promise you!
You'll be introduced to many decorating ideas and techniques and learn about using coloured slips, paints and glazes prior to firing your work. There will be a small extra cost for firing. Approx £5 per piece depending on size.
Week 1: Friday 15th May 10:30-12pm Explore & get comfortable with the clay & learn how to make pinch pots and use coils and slab building to create different forms.

Week 2: Friday 22nd May 10:30-12pm Time to create a pot, mug, vase, or sculptural form of your choice using any hand building techniques.

Week 3: Friday 29th May 10:30-12pm Learn how to trim your work & experiment with many ideas & materials for decoration to add colour, texture & patterns, using stamps, natural materials, tools , slips and underglazes. So many exciting possibilities!
Week 4: Friday 5th June 10:30-12pm A fun session to learn the principles of Throwing on the Wheel, how to centre and shape the clay using your hands into a cylinder or bowl. This will take place at my seaside cottage in the village as it can get messy!

Week 5: Friday 12th June 10:30-12pm You'll be trimming and decorating your thrown piece with surface decorative techniques and paints or coloured slips for texture, colour and pattern.

Week 6: Friday 19th June 10:30-12pm A final session to finish your hand built and thrown work ready for firing and the opportunity to create mini pieces if time allows.
