Essential Information for Walkers
Planning:
- Please allow plenty of time to reach your event and change into your walking gear. Parking can be tricky in the Gorge, so please arrive for the walk 10 minutes before the start time.
- For parking information, please visit: https://www.telford.gov.uk/roadworks-transport-and-streets/parking/car-parks/ or for details of other car parks in the borough that are not council managed, visit Parkopedia website
- It is possible to reach Ironbridge via public transport but there are limited services. For information on local bus services see www.arrivabus.co.uk or www.telfordpublictransport.co.uk
- Medals are available for anyone completing 25,50,75 or 100 miles over 3 or more walks during the festival and if you complete over 150 miles you will receive our Cartman Challenge medal – it has been done!
Clothing, Equipment and Comfort:
- All walks take place within the Ironbridge Gorge which will naturally include uphill and downhill sections, even for short walks. You may want to consider using a walking pole or poles. Please refer to the overview of the walls which give more detail.
- Good walking boots/walking shoes are essential on all of walks. Wear/carry clothing for wet and sunny weather. We can have both in the same day!
- Some sections of the routes may be overgrown and have nettles and brambles, so consider sleeve and trouser lengths for your own comfort.
- Please come prepared for the walk, with water, drinks, snacks and food as appropriate for the length, duration and effort of the walk as it is rarely possible to purchase items on route.
- Please also be aware that toilet facilities and seating are limited on most of the routes.
- Be mindful of any recent rainfall that may also make some of the routes muddy and consider using walking poles. Walking routes may be changed at the last minute due to the impact of the weather.
