Get ready for a comedy marathon like no other! Benny Elbows, a returning veteran of Memphis stand-up, is setting out to make history by breaking the world record for the longest solo stand-up comedy show—a staggering 40 hours and 8 minutes. Will he make it? Only one way to find out—be there to witness the laughs, the grit, and the awkwardness that comes with sleep deprivation. Benny Elbows’ stand-up ranges from intelligently dumb to dumbly intelligent, and it has somehow landed him as a former finalist in the Memphis Flyer’s “Best of Memphis” and the reigning First Runner-up “Funniest Person in Memphis” for over 11 years (he didn’t keep winning it or anything, they just stopped doing the contest). He has also been a featured performer at the Tim Northern Comedy Festival, Live Laughs Comedy Festival, Broken Record Comedy Show, and Paul Bunyan Comedy Festival.
The attempt will start at Friday, April 25th at 6am at the Hi-Tone on Cleveland Ave, and will (hopefully) culminate with a live album recording at 9:15pm on Saturday, April 26th. The event is free to attend, but certain time slots may require registration in advance to reserve a seat.
If you would like to volunteer to help with the world record, the best way to do so is to simply be in the audience, as Guinness rules require 10 awake audience members at all times. You can sign up for time slots at https://docs.google.com/forms/d/18UfPS19s6GwmFvvD9cibqmKcIE3PfT9Fzptt3pya6pQ/prefill
Information regarding the event schedule, including special segments, will be announced as we get closer to the event.
