The Hut Building activity is more than creating shelter – it is a celebration of culture, connection, and the traditional ways of being that have sustained Aboriginal people for thousands of years.On Country, our Ancestors built huts not only for protection but as places of gathering, storytelling, and family connection. Each structure carried knowledge, teaching us about respect for the land, the seasons, and the resources gifted to us.
This event continues that legacy by bringing our community together to share skills, strengthen cultural identity, and honour the knowledge passed down through generations. It is a time to reconnect with traditional practices, to work side by side, and to experience the deep cultural meaning of creating a space with our hands, hearts, and spirit.
The huts we build today are symbols of resilience, belonging, and survival. They remind us that culture is alive, strong, and always growing – carried forward by our young people and guided by our Elders.
