Speakers: Ginger E. Jacobs, Attorney
Ginger received her J.D. degree with cum laude honors from Harvard Law School in 1998 and her Bachelor of Arts degree with magna cum laude honors from Duke University in 1995. Ms. Jacobs is a founding member of Jacobs & Schlesinger LLP, a full-service immigration and appellate law firm. Ms. Jacobs focuses her practice on employment-, family-, and investor-based immigration cases, as well as asylum, Violence Against Women Act cases, removal cases in Immigration Court, and consular processing through U.S. embassies and consulates abroad. Ms. Jacobs is admitted to the bar of the State of New York. She is a member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) and a former member of the Executive Committee of her local AILA chapter. She served on the Advisory Board of the San Diego Immigrant Rights Consortium for more than ten years.
In 2007, Ms. Jacobs received the President’s Commendation from the national AILA organization for Outstanding Achievement in Coalition Building in her Community. She received the Top Attorney award for San Diego from the San Diego Daily Transcript in both 2013 and 2015. She was also awarded the “Women Who Mean Business” award in 2014. Ms. Jacobs’ firm has been awarded “Law Firm of the Year” awards for its extensive pro bono and social justice work by the American Bar Association Immigrant Justice Project and the Unitarian Universalist Refugee and Immigrant Services and Education organization. Ms. Jacobs frequently gives presentations and workshops in the community and for professional organizations on various topics in immigration and nationality law in both English and Spanish.
Ms. Jacobs has been handling complex family-based immigration cases for over 22 years. She began practicing when 245(i) cases were the norm, not the exception to the rule, so she is intimately familiar with these complex cases. She has given several lectures on 212(a)(9)(B), 212(a)(9)(C), and other potential obstacles to adjustment of status, and is very pleased to be able to educate a larger audience on how to effectively handle complex adjustments of status.

Speaker Qualifications:
Helen Tarokic is the owner of Helen Tarokic Law PLLC. She is the author of Ignite your Practice with the T Visa. She is a NC Board Certified Immigration Law Specialist who handles anti-trafficking casework, including T and U visas for victims of crime. Attorney Tarokic graduated from Wake Forest University School of Law in August of 2006. She is a licensed attorney in Wilmington, NC. She is an active AILA Member. She speaks English, Spanish, and Croatian. Her law firm handles many different types of immigration & naturalization matters, including business immigration, family-based cases, humanitarian applications, non-detained removal defense, and U.S. citizenship applications. She has been an invited speaker at many national and international conferences and has co-counseled on litigation related to immigration categories including T, U, H-1B and permanent residency.

• NC CLE credit will be requested since the organizer is based in North Carolina
• Attorneys licensed outside of NC can attend. A certificate of attendance will be provided upon request for those who need proof of attendance.
• Attorney-supervised paralegals may attend for educational purposes.
• Attorney-supervised means the paralegal must be employed by a licensed attorney and under regular supervision to prevent the unauthorized practice of law.
• Attorneys signing up paralegals take responsibility for their employee’s registration fees and participation in the program and agree to pay full and fair wages for time the paralegal trains in the seminar as part of work hours/on-the-job training.
This is an interdisciplinary seminar, so please be mindful that we will have individuals of various levels of knowledge attending and have law enforcement, therapists, and other anti-trafficking professionals in attendance. It will be an excellent opportunity for all.
