The City of Palm Coast is delighted to bring its 6th Annual Touch-a-Truck event back to Central Park in Town Center on Saturday, May 16 – a prelude to American Public Works Association’s National Public Works Week, which is celebrated from May 17-23 this year.
The week, founded in 1960, and declared via proclamation by President John F. Kennedy in 1962, has been recognized annually at the national level during the third week of May ever since – growing in popularity and spawning events across the country among the 30,000+ members of the APWA. This year will mark the 6th outing of Palm Coast’s annual Touch-a-Truck event, which offers the chance for attendees to get up close and personal with work vehicles and machinery of all shapes, sizes, and modalities.
“For the Public Works department, this is certainly something that we look forward to every year as we connect with our community, and highlight not only the work we do, but the vehicles and machines that truly keep our community moving”, said Palm Coast Public Works Specialist Benny Cope. We’ve seen the event grow each year and are honored to share this family-friendly experience with our community and our youth.”
This year’s theme, Rooted in Service, Powered by Community, is a testament to the various facets of Public Works, from the most public facing like landscaping and traffic control, to those less seen such as maintaining water and sewer systems.
The City of Palm Coast’s Touch-a-Truck event will take place from 10am-2pm on Saturday, May 16 at Central Park in Town Center and a special horn-free hour for those with sensory sensibilities will take place from 10-11am. Convenient parking will be available along Central Ave and City Place, while Park Street, and Lake Ave will be closed as they will be utilized for the event. Stay tuned to palmcoast.gov/events or our social media pages below for a full list of vendors, participants and activities to be announced closer to the event date.
