The 2026 Over the Hill Bowl, a tag football FUNdraiser for the HER Shelter, will be held on Saturday, February 7, 2026, at 2:00 p.m., on The Signet Center's grounds, off of Bells Mill Road, in Great Bridge. The Over the Hill Bowl is a fun, co-ed, self-regulated tag (not tackle) football event, benefiting Help & Emergency Response, Inc. - HER Shelter, which organization primarily serves Portsmouth and Chesapeake, and provides advocacy and resources (including emergency housing) to survivors and communities affected by domestic violence, sexual violence, stalking, and human trafficking. It also provides an emergency shelter for homeless families in Portsmouth. A REGISTRATION LINK WILL BE AVAILABLE SOON.
The Over the Hill Bowl is similar to playing football with your friends and family at a get-together (no experience is needed; you just have to want to have fun). After going over the rules and performing The Star-Spangled Banner with kazoos, each team plays two 50-minute games (each with a half time break), with 8 players on the field (or even less, depending on the teams' roster sizes and the availability of substitute players). Water and hot beverages will be provided outside, and, after the games are done, there will be raffles and awards (MVP, Cheerleader, Bonehead Play of the Day, etc.).
