2026 Let's Move Summit County Bike & Hike

Let’s Move Summit County is a healthy lifestyle initiative that encourages children and families to lead active, healthy lives. An initiative of the Summit County Council, Let’s Move Summit County has hosted Community Health Walks and events since 2010. The 2026 Bike & Hike is a FREE event intended to engage the community in a healthy activity.

Participants will ride or walk on a designated route along the Towpath Trail starting and ending at Summit Lake Community Center. Riders will depart first, followed by walkers. The bike course will take riders from Summit Lake to Nesmith Lake and back (approximately 6 miles). This year, there will be an Extented Route Option to the Fairview Trailhead in Barberton . This will add approximately 5 more miles to the route for riders who want more of a challenge. Please sign up for 8:00 or 8:15 time slots if you prefer that option.

The walk will be a 2.75 mile loop around Summit Lake starting at Summit Lake Community Center, crossing the new Towpath Bridge on the North Shore and passing the BRAND NEW Summit Lake North Shore Park, the former Margaret Park School site, Let’s Grow Akron Community Garden and the Metro Parks Nature Center at Summit Lake before returning to the Community Center.

This event is open to the public with the first registered 200 riders and 300 walkers guaranteed event t-shirts and donated items provided by partners and sponsors. Participants will depart at designated start times led by event volunteers.

A limited number of bikes and helmets will be available to rent for the course with an ID security deposit. All cyclists participating in this event are encouraged to wear a helmet. All participants must sign a liability waiver prior to riding or walking in this event.

Participants will have access to restrooms at the Summit Lake Community Center and provided a free prepackaged lunch upon returning to Summit Lake Park. Refreshment/water stations will be available at the turn-around points for bikers (Nesmith Lake) and the west shore park area of Summit Lake for walkers.

Info: Check in begins at 7:30 a.m. -- 5 starts for groups of 40 every 15 minutes between 8:00 and 9:00 a.m. Route should take about an hour to complete.
