The Nanaimo Chinese Cultural Society (NCCS) is proud to present our annual Lunar New Year Gala! In 2025, we embrace the Year of the Snake. The Snake is the sixth symbol of the Chinese Zodiac, and is associated with wisdom, charm, elegance, and transformation.
Lunar New Year, often called the Spring Festival or Chinese New Year, is the most important holiday in China and Chinese communities around the world. It is not only celebrated in China — many other asian communities such as Vietnam, Korea, Malaysia, and Singapore also partake in honouring this remarkable holiday. Traditionally celebrated over a two week period, this holiday is centered around the gathering of friends and family, to share in the feasting and celebrating of this joyous time.
We are honoured to invite all members of our community to join us for this year’s Lunar New Year event, which will be the largest celebration in our region!

The Nanaimo Chinese Cultural Society (NCCS) is a registered non-profit organization, preserving and sharing the Chinese culture and traditions within our community. Our Nanaimo organization was created in 1982, to cultivate a sense of belonging, self-esteem and fellowship within the local Chinese Canadian diaspora. We strive to cultivate and promote better understanding and friendship within the Chinese community and other ethic groups through cultural and social events and programs, such as our famed annual Lunar New Year celebration, and our Mid-Autumn Festival.

As a non-profit organization, the generous contributions of our local businesses help us to continue preserving and sharing the Chinese culture and traditions within our community. We kindly ask if you are willing to contribute to this year’s celebration by donating an item or gift certificate to our silent auction. We would be honoured to give your business exposure by displaying business cards and/or information pamphlets along with your donation. The NCCS will be using the funds directly to host events throughout the city, illuminating and celebrating Asian cultures and traditions in Nanaimo.
