WHAT: East Atlanta Strut
WHEN: Saturday, September 27, noon until 6 p.m., Parade at noon
WHERE: East Atlanta business district (centered at Flat Shoals and Glenwood avenues) and Brownwood Park, 602 Brownwood Ave. SE Atlanta 30316.
The East Atlanta Strut, which showcases one of the city’s most eclectic in-town neighborhoods, harnesses the area’s creative vibe to put on a festival with a twist — several twists.
There are games you’ll only find at the Strut:
Leaf Blower Madness pits contestants in a relay race using the yard tool people love to hate.
The Wing Toss challenges contestants to not only eat their wings, but to also properly dispose of the bones.
Use your imagination for the description of Llama Poop Bingo.
The Strut offers two stages of live music, plus a porchfest, which means more than 30 bands are ready to entertain attendees. The neighborhood’s restaurants and bars show off for the Strut, and there also are plenty of food and drink vendors, plus more than 100 merchandise vendor booths.
It all kicks off with the Strut Parade, which features marching bands, floats and, of course, the Queens of the Strut.
The Strut is a 501(c)3 organized and run completely by volunteers, whose mission is to highlight their community and use festival profits to award grants to other neighborhood nonprofits. The festival has been happening since 1998.
