The World Affairs Council of Charlotte is honored to announce that Eugene "Gene" A. Woods, Chief Executive Officer of Advocate Health, will be the recipient of the 2024 World Citizen Award. This prestigious award not only reflects our deep respect for Gene but also serves as a platform to recognize and celebrate the extraordinary contributions of individuals and organizations to our community, region, and nation. The event will be hosted at the Hilton Charlotte Uptown on Thursday, May 23, 2024, from 6:00 - 9:00 p.m. (Black Tie Optional)
Gene's leadership has been instrumental in fostering remarkable achievements by Advocate Health (includes Atrium Health), and we believe it's essential to highlight some of these outstanding contributions:
➡️The establishment of Charlotte's first medical school, Wake Forest University School of Medicine Charlotte.
➡️The rapid development of the Pearl Innovation District, a hub for innovation, nurturing new concepts and enterprises, attracting venture capital, and fostering the growth of businesses, with a specific focus on minority-owned ventures.
➡️The merger that created Advocate Health, bringing together Advocate Aurora Health and Atrium Health to become the fifth-largest nonprofit health system in the nation by revenue.
His visionary thinking, strategic insight, and forward-looking initiatives have not only left a lasting impact in the Carolinas but have also gained significant recognition on a national and international level.
Gene's acceptance of this award is not only a great honor for WACC but also an inspiration for our community and beyond. We look forward to celebrating this momentous occasion with you this May.
