About this Event

Welcome

We are pleased to announce the launch of the 2024 UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) Annual UK Review Meeting on Outdoor and Indoor Air Pollution Research. This year the event will be held in Bristol. The meeting is being organised by the Air Quality and Public Health team within the Environmental Hazards and Emergencies Department, UKHSA along with the ‘Air Quality and Public Health Stakeholder Seminar’ to be held on 27th November 2024.

Discover the Stakeholder Meeting.

Since the mid-1990s, the Annual UK Review Meeting on Outdoor and Indoor Air Pollution Research has been the main national meeting of the UK’s experts in the field of air pollution and health research and policy makers. The meeting will bring together academics, government scientists, policy makers, and others to present and discuss the latest research findings.

Who should attend:

The Research Review is aimed at academics and researchers at all levels, policy makers at both national and local level, directors of public health, and health charities.

Call for abstracts

The Organising Committee welcomes your abstract submissions. Abstracts can be submitted for oral and poster presentations and the submission period is now open.

We encourage submission of abstracts on air quality and health, from a variety of disciplines including epidemiology, toxicology, behavioural science and exposure modelling, among others. Indoor and outdoor air pollution research contributions on the following topics would be particularly appropriate for the 2024 conference:

• Morbidity outcomes and biological mechanisms, e.g. neurological, metabolic impacts, maternal outcomes and other emerging health outcomes.

• Inequalities in exposure and health e.g. by region and socio-economic status.

• Analysis of the impact of major air indoor/outdoor air quality challenges anticipated in the next 5 years and beyond.

• Unintended consequences from net zero policies e.g. emerging pollutants, micro-plastics, housing insulation and tyre/brake materials.

• Adaptation to a warming climate, e.g. co-benefits of active transport, impacts of changing ventilation practices on air quality.

• Analysis of interventions and behavioural studies to address these challenges, including:

- Insights of interventions which have or haven’t worked e.g. transport, solid-fuel burning

- Effectiveness of translation and communication of policy to the general public

- Local initiatives in the Bristol region

Abstract submission guidelines:

• All abstracts must be submitted via the link below in the requested format by 4th October 2024

• The abstract should be in maximum of 300 words

• Format: Background, Objectives, Methods, Results, Conclusion

• Do not include diagrams or references
