SPEAKERS:Paula Abood: anti-racist cultural worker, educator, writer and creative producer
Scott Pointing: Political Scientist and author of "What Caused the Cronulla Riot?"
Others TBC:
The racist Cronulla riots of 11 Dec 2005 were fanned by the likes of Alan Jones and tacitly supported by then PM John Howard, who refused to describe the violence as racist.
By contrast, the riots shocked and disgusted wide layers of Australian society.
The anti-racist left responded quickly, with a rally of over 10,000 people at Sydney Town Hall a week later.
Groups like March 4 Australia, the National Socialist Network and Put Australia First will celebrate the anniversary, and use it to build upon their previous mobilisations of 31 August and 19 October. They will again take their filth to the streets across the country on Sunday 30 November, featuring a speech via video from British neo-Nazi Tommy Robinson. In Sydney, the lead spokesperson will be Stuart Bonds, One Nation candidate for the state seat of Hunter.
We again need a mass movement to counter their racist lies, and sheet home responsibility for the resurgence of the far right at the hands of mainstream politicians.
