About this Event
What is a Beaver Slam?
A community open mic celebrating beavers as
teachers, engineers, family-makers, and sacred water keepers.
We invite:
- Poets & storytellers
- Scientists & students
- Neighbors & elders of West Seattle
- Artists, musicians, quiet observers
- Anyone who has ever watched water slow down and breathe
5–7 minute offerings
True stories. Poems. Mini-talks. Improvisations.
Love letters to beavers. Laments. Praise songs. Data with a pulse.
Why Beavers? They Make Waterways Healthier. Even in Urban Ones.
Because their dams are broken—
again and again—
for doing exactly what the creek needs.
Because their families are displaced, misunderstood, erased.
Because even polluted creeks still remember what beavers know:
how to heal water, cool it, clean it, hold it, slow it,
and make room for life.
