The Conference is being hosted by Dr Claudine Matthews, founder of SICKLE CELL NUTRITION ACADEMY, Award winning Consultant Dietitian and leading global expert on the integration of nutrition into standard care provision in SCD.
Presently, nutrition in SCD is a neglected part of standard care provision impacting the experience, access and outcomes of people living with sickle cell disease.
This conference seeks to address these health inequalities inherent in the lack of nutrition service provision by focussing on the benefits of the role of nutrition as a management option in SCD. Furthermore, consideration is given to findings of a recent doctoral study highlighting the myriad of influencing factors affecting nutrition and service provision impacting on the integration of nutrition into standard care, necessary to help mitigate some of the debilitating symptoms related to the clinical features of the condition.
This in person conference, aims to achieve the following:
1. Provide you with an overview of the existing scientific literature and new research perspectives on the topic of the SCD and the importance of nutritional management.
2. Provide clinical perspectives from practitioners on the need for the nutritional management of SCD to improve patient outcomes.
3. Provide scientific evidence in support of the integration of nutrition into standard care provision in SCD to address the health inequality associated with the lack of nutrition service provision.
4. Provide an overview of the influencing factors affecting nutrition integration and service provision in SCD and the complexity, invisibility and marginalisation of sickle cell nutrition.
5. Provide case study evidence of the nutritional needs of sickle cell patients that require nutritional management.
