About this Event
Welcome to the 2026 CEND Symposium - From Discovery to Delivery: Infectious Disease Research at the Crossroads
Date: Thursday May 21, 2026
Location: Li Ka Shing Center, LKS 245
The Center for Emerging and Neglected Diseases invites researchers, faculty, students, and global health practitioners to explore cutting-edge science at the intersection of infectious disease, environmental health, and public policy. This interdisciplinary symposium brings together basic scientists, bioengineers, epidemiologists, public health practitioners, and policy experts to address some of today's most pressing health challenges.
Key sessions will focus on
- Zoonoses and One Health: Crossing Boundaries
- Tuberculosis: Ancient Enemy, Modern Battle
- Urgent Threats: Vector borne diseases and epidemics
Each session features three expert speakers followed by panel discussions that bridge disciplines—from molecular mechanisms to population-level interventions. Join colleagues from across UC Berkeley and beyond as we examine the complex pathways linking environmental change, pathogen emergence, and human health outcomes.
Space is limited. Register now to participate in this essential dialogue shaping the future of infectious disease research and global health preparedness.
Abstracts should be submitted by April 27th and poster presenters and speakers will be chosen from these submissions.
Abstract Submission
Participants may present their work as either a Short Talk or a Poster Presentation.
A short talk consists of a 5-minute presentation followed by 2 minutes for questions and discussion. Please note that slots for talks are limited and the CEND Symposium Committee will select speakers based on scientific merit and program balance.
Posters will be presented during a dedicated, highly interactive, and convivial poster session at the end of the symposium. We strongly encourage everyone to present a poster, as this session is the heart of the CEND Symposium and offers the best opportunities to exchange ideas and receive valuable feedback.
Accessibility
CEND strives to foster an inclusive and equitable environment.
