About this Event
Welcome to the 12th Annual National Vigil for All Victims of Gun Violence!
Each year since 2013, Newtown Action Alliance Foundation (NAAF), the charitable arm of the Newtown Action Alliance (NAA), and numerous sponsors and partners in the gun violence prevention community have sponsored the National Vigil for All Victims of Gun Violence on or near the anniversary of the Sandy Hook shooting tragedy. These multi-denominational remembrance events have been held in Washington, D.C. at the National Cathedral and St. Mark’s Episcopal Church to bring together survivors of gun violence, victims’ family members, concerned citizens, faith leaders, lawmakers, leaders of gun violence prevention organizations, and activists from all corners of our nation.
Through generous individual donations and grants, NAAF has brought a busload of families and advocates from Newtown, and families of victims and survivors of gun violence from other communities across the nation to Washington, D.C. to participate in the national vigil service and remembrance event.
December 14, 2024 is the 12-year mark of the Sandy Hook tragedy. Over 1.2 million Americans have shot and over 400,000 Americans have been killed by guns since 20 children and six educators were killed in Sandy Hook Elementary School by a gunman with an AR-15 and high capacity magazines. We urge you to join the gun violence prevention community in our collective effort to continue to shine a light on the devastating epidemic of gun violence in our nation until these gun deaths and injuries are reduced.
The victims, survivors and the families impacted by gun violence are often forgotten. Therefore, Newtown Action Alliance Foundation and the Newtown Action Alliance, in partnership with many parter organizations will host the annual national vigil service of mourning and loving remembrance for all who have fallen victim to the ongoing epidemic of gun violence in America on Wednesday, December 11, 2024 at St Marks Episcopal Church in Washington, D.C., which will anchor the Nationwide Vigils & Events to #EndGunViolence during the month of December.
Our goal is simple. The gun violence prevention movement will unite to support the families, survivors, and communities impacted by gun violence, educate, continue to raise awareness, and keep this critical public health and public safety issue front and center throughout our nation. Together, we will renew our vow to #HonorWithAction to #EndGunViolence in America.
