Why 108?

Referred to as a sacred number in numerous cultures, 108 represents wholeness. It shows up in many ways:

• 12 zodiac houses multiplied by 9 planets equals 108.
• In Hinduism there are 108 Upanishads and 108 names for deities.
• In Buddhism it is believed there are 108 earthly temptations or delusions to overcome to achieve nirvana.
• The number 108 is a Harshad number (divisible by the sum of its digits) and has special significance in geometry (the angles of a pentagon are 108 degrees).
