About this Event

100 (!!) Saxophones and an exciting journey into modern art — for younger audience too

The Rainy Days festival returns to the Philharmonie! Together we’ll spend an entire afternoon exploring a variety of extraordinary musical experiences. I know modern music may seem distant to many, but only because no one has ever really helped you understand why it can actually be so enjoyable.

On Sunday, November 23 at 4 p.m., our group will join the festival, starting with a concert evoking endangered animals. Then, in the foyer, we’ll experience a unique piece written for 100+4 (!!) saxophones — something you don’t get to see and hear every day! There will also be many fascinating sound installations to interact with. At 6:30 p.m., we’ll watch a work written for judokas (!!) and orchestra, and the evening will close with a world premiere.

The special feature of this event is that before each performance, I’ll explain what you’re about to hear and see, helping you get a little closer to this exciting world — and the festival’s artistic director will also join us briefly as our guide. Based on my experience, young people often find modern classical music more exciting than traditional works, so I believe this will be a wonderful evening for families — perhaps with the exception of the very youngest children.

The Last of Their Kin(d): A speculative songbook of endangered species

Info:
Trio Accanto - The Last of Their Kin(d): A speculative songbook of endangered species
The Last of Their Kin(d) marks the restart of Trio Accanto with their new pianist, Stefan Wirth. Together with Katinka Deecke, he has developed a songbook about endangered animals, enhanced with a video by Georg Lendorff. In a series of short compositions, ten composers will give a voice to the different species. The contrasting life-worlds of the animals are reflected in the very different aesthetic standpoints of the composers.

Soft dynamics and subtle gestures and colour transform the massed ensemble into a shimmering sonic texture. This immersive performance takes place in the Foyer and features a crowd of saxophonists from the Luxembourg Saxophone Association performing alongside four soloists from the Amstel Quartet, offering audiences a unique spatial and acoustic experience.
