About this Event
100 Cleft Portraits
Event Location: Lift
About:
How do we raise children who are proud of their facial differences in a world that can be challenging and sometimes cruel? As parents, we want them to recognise their beauty and inner strength while also finding that same resilience within ourselves to guide them through life’s obstacles. It’s a tough journey, one I know well. My daughter was born with a bilateral cleft lip and palate in 2007, and through our shared experiences, we’ve grown stronger and more resilient. I’ve learned that embracing and celebrating facial differences for the lessons they bring is key to helping children thrive.
That belief is what inspired The 100 Cleft Portraits Exhibition. Over the past three years, I’ve created portraits of individuals born with cleft, blending my personal experience as a parent with the healing power of art to break down stigma. These portraits celebrate the beauty and strength of those living with cleft while raising awareness of diversity and inclusivity. The exhibition aims to foster a deeper understanding of facial differences, encouraging empathy and kindness in society, and empowering both parents and children to embrace the power of difference.
