❄️ The longest night of the year is here… and one of the most beautiful nights to explore the sky ✨
⭐ Our most popular Event of the year… traditionally sold out… now released across two limited-capacity nights only ⭐
Join Gold Coast Astronomy for our most popular Public Astronomy Night of the year, as we celebrate the Winter (Hibernal) Solstice… the longest night in the Southern Hemisphere. ❄️🌌
As daylight reaches its shortest point, we are gifted with extended darkness, creating one of the best opportunities of the year to explore the night sky in all its depth and detail.
For thousands of years, cultures around the world have marked the solstice as a time of reflection, transition, and renewal. This evening, we’ll explore both the science and significance of this celestial Event.
During the evening, we’ll explore the Winter Solstice and its significance in both astronomy and human history:
✨ Why the Winter Solstice occurs
✨ How Earth’s tilt shapes our seasons
✨ Why this is the longest night of the year
✨ What this turning point means for the Southern Hemisphere
✨ The cultural and historical importance of the solstice
🔭 The night will include a guided tour and telescope viewing of all the visible wonders the Southern Celestial Hemisphere has to offer this June. ✨ From our Moon, to Planets 🪐, star clusters, nebulae, and constellations, guests will experience the night sky as it unfolds above us.
💬 Our Public Astronomy Night events explore a specific topic and encourage interactive discussions around the everyday astronomical events we often take for granted, perfect for curious minds of all ages, from beginners to seasoned skywatchers 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦🔭.
☕ Complimentary tea, coffee, and hot chocolate 🫖☕🍫 will be provided throughout the night to keep you warm and comfortable under the stars ✨❄️.
✨ Gold Coast Astronomy also offers you the ability to relive your experience with: ⭐ A take-home star chart of the night ⭐ A summary of key visible celestial objects ⭐ An opportunity to capture your very own photos through one of our telescopes using your mobile phone 📷🤳🏼🌙
