The Wollongong library has once again invited us to use their space for our first workshop of the month! Bring your current cosplay project to work on in a group environment, come and ask questions or just come to hang out 💛‼️HOW TO GET THERE‼️
Wollongong Library is on Burelli Street opposite the IPAC. If you’ve been to ComicGong, you’d know that it’s one of the venues for the event! The 55C shuttle stops right outside. Enter through the main doors and head to the right from the foyer into the main library to find the LAB. To your right, there’ll be a staircase (and an elevator) that will lead you directly to the LAB (from the elevator turn left to find the LAB).
‼️WHERE TO PARK‼️
There is a carpark at 25 Stewart Street (right behind the library) that has a little alleyway that will bring you out right next to the main entrance! We’re about 90% sure this carpark is free on weekends as well 🎉
‼️WHAT CAN YOU BRING?‼️
The Library has done a lot of negotiating to allow us to bring our own sewing machines and tools! PLEASE NOTE, however, that if the cables of your machine/tools are damaged IN ANY WAY you will not be permitted to use them. This includes the outer rubber of the cable being cut/having holes in etc. So long as your cables are safe to use, go ahead! There are so SO many power points at our disposal in the LAB, however, if cables run across the floor where people can trip we have to use cable covers so please try to keep your cables out of the way!
‼️A FRIENDLY REMINDER‼️
The Library has kindly let us use their space for free so we want to keep it as clean as humanly possible and leave it exactly as we found it! They’ve requested that we keep mess on the floor to a minimum. Some ways we can protect the Library’s space clean and safe are:
- BRING A CUTTING BOARD. There will be absolutely no cutting straight onto the library tables. PLEASE do not cut foam on spare foam either. We don’t want to damage the library’s tables or equipment.
- If you’re going to be painting/using contact adhesive/priming/any other messy activity PLEASE use newspaper or something to keep the tables clean.
- If you’re going to be dremeling, PLEASE bring a tarp/bedsheet/towel to catch all your foam dust. Also please let us know beforehand so we can close the sliding doors! Just to protect any of the public library-goers who could have asthma/other conditions that could flare up from foam dust.
- PLEASE WEAR FACE MASKS ESPECIALLY WHEN: dremeling/using contact adhesive/anything dangerous. Even if it’s a little disposable medical one. We want to make sure we’re being as safe as we possibly can when we’re in view of the public.
‼️ADDITIONAL LIBRARY EQUIPMENT‼️
The library has four Janome sewing machines that we will be allowed to use on the day! HOWEVER, you cannot use these machines without being inducted first. If you wish to use these machines SEE AN EXECUTIVE BEFORE TOUCHING THEM. You’re free to use them after going through an induction. They will be setting them up in the LAB to use, so please double-check machines before using them if you haven’t been inducted!
‼️FOOD AND DRINK‼️
Snacks and stuff are allowed in the LAB, but hot food is not. There are plenty of food options around the CBD and mall but please eat away from the LAB
