🥾 Rough in places – good footwear advised
A beautiful, winding circular walk taking in a rich mix of natural scenery and historic landmarks. The route climbs up Twmbarlwm, the climb is a steep start before weaving through woodland before looping around Medart and returning to the start.
The summit of Twmbarlwm is a real highlight, offering great views and a fascinating sense of history. The hill is believed to have been used over centuries as an Iron Age hill fort, a Roman signal point, and later a Norman motte‑and‑bailey castle, showing just how strategically important this spot once was.
Expect forest paths, open hillside and some rougher sections underfoot, as well as short stretches of paved road — care needed, especially in wetter conditions. A rewarding walk with plenty of interest, history and scenery throughout.
